Ally McCoist last night paid tribute to former Rangers team-mate Avi Cohen after he died yesterday afternoon.
The Israeli international made 12 appearances for the Light Blues and collected a winners medal as the Gers beat Aberdeen to lift the 1987 League Cup.
Cohen, who also had a two-year spell with Liverpool, was involved in a motorcycle crash on December 20 and suffered serious head injuries. His son Tamir, who plays for Bolton, confirmed his death yesterday.
“I am absolutely shattered, as are all the boys who got to know Avi during his time at Rangers,” McCoist said.
“We knew his situation was bad but never for a second did we think it would come to this.
“He was an absolute gentleman. His football talent was obvious but he was just a lovely, lovely man.”
